My daughter Leslie and her husband have announced that they're going to be parents in April! I'm really excited (as my older daughter Lindsay would say, "she's going all crafty grandma"), and I immediately got started on making some presents, since our house work is in a slump. Leslie likes owls, so I found a cute owl square in crochet:
I pinned that and then remembered Leslie follows me on Pinterest and I wanted this to be a surprise... so I hoped she didn't notice it!
It took me a few weeks to get all the owl squares done, and then I had to find a good pattern to go in-between....
oooh...lots of yarn fuzzies on the rug..... and Persephone cannot stay out of a photo...
I liked the way the white brings out the owls eyes, which are buttons (securely sewn on with extra heavy pearl cotton), and the gold centers of the contrasting squares also bring out the beaks/feet.
a few rows around to make a border, and it was done! The back side is a lot smoother, so that's the side you can wrap around a baby. Persephone approves.
I couldn't resist making a little owl baby hat to go with it.....
I got it mailed off this Monday, and she got it yesterday, so now I can post about it!
